Founded
1983
CRI’s predecessor was the CSK Research Institute, Inc. (CRI), established in 1983 as a software technology research institute and a subsidiary of CSK Corporation (now SCSK Corporation). The company first conducted research into AI and other fields, but it is via its sustained work on audio and video technologies that it developed a strong relationship with Sega Enterprises Co., Ltd. (now Sega Co., Ltd.), a CSK group company at the time, and began developing middleware and applications (games) for Sega’s home consoles.
Established
2001
CRI was established in August 2001 as an independent middleware division from CSK Research Institute Ltd. for the purpose of developing and selling middleware. The name of the company at the time was CRI Middleware Co.
Subsequently, CRI became capital independent from the parent company through an Employee Buy-Out (EBO) conducted by its executives and employees. In January 2005, CRI changed its name to the current “CRI Middleware Co., Ltd.”
Net sales
3,167million yen
The Group focused on expanding its operating base and creating Group synergies by developing its online communication middleware CRI TeleXus, as well as establishing an R&D operation that focuses on businesses and markets expected to grow in the future, such as mobility.
The following are the operating results by segment.
Operating profit margin
11.6%
CRI aims to expand its business and increase its corporate value over the medium to long term, and considers sustainable sales growth and an operating profit margin of around 20% to be important management indicators.
Consolidated financial results for the fiscal year under review were as follows: net sales 3,167,285 thousand yen (up 5.9% year-on-year); operating profit 368,358 thousand yen (operating profit ratio 11.6%). The significant growth in the performance of the Enterprise business absorbed the impact of the loss of performance of the game development/operation subsidiary transferred at the end of the previous financial year, resulting in a second consecutive year of growth in sales and profits. However, for the time being, the operating margin is not expected to reach 20%, as priority will be given to R&D investment in CRI TeleXus.
